SADE SATI

WHAT IS SADE SATI?

‘SADE SATI’ in Hindi means 7.5, which happens in 3 phases of 2.5 years each, i.e. total of 7.5 years, and hence the name, Sade Sati. This event takes place once every 30 years when transiting Saturn is the closest from natal moon in birth chart.

THREE PHASES OF SADE SATI

IN VEDIC Astrology, there are 12 houses and 12 signs of 30 degrees each. Saturn in transit stays in every house for 2 years and 6 months before moving on to the next sign.

The first phase, also called first Dahiya of 2.5 years occurs when Saturn in transit moves one sign behind natal moon in birth chart and stays there for 30 months. Although the beginning period does not outwardly indicate much trouble, and one leads a normal life, this is when things start building up from inside, which natives can hardly realize or foresee.

The real distress is in the second phase, when Shani moves to the house where the lunar body is located in birth chart, and lives here for a similar period, also called second Dahiya. Life becomes difficult and even unbearable for many, as troubles erupt on all fronts, and one is at his wits end, unable to decide the course of action. Financial losses, debts, health issues, court cases, anxiety in family life – all difficulties surround you like never before.

The final phase is when Shani moves one houses ahead of natal moon, which is the third Dahiya. This is when one starts getting some relief from the pathetic situation experienced during the previous period. Things gradually keep improving, and Shani not only compensates some of the losses incurred before but also bestows wisdom.

SATURN-MOON RELATIONSHIP

SADE SATI revolves around the association of Saturn & Moon, and hence, it is pertinent to study the relationship between these two.

Saturn and Moon are sworn enemies, and if together in the same house, won’t let each other progress and prosper, as this combination creates hurdles everywhere. However, unlike sun and Saturn, which too are highly aggressive foes and indulge in violent fights, Saturn and Moon are non-violent but harmful opponents.

Imagine, if you have to live with your silent sworn enemy in the same apartment, what would be the scenario? There would be no happiness and peace inside your home but the prevailing environment would be one of anxiety and depression, melancholy, distress as your companion is your diehard opponent who is planning to create hurdles every step.

WHY IS SADE SATI FEARED?

A WIDESPREAD misconception prevails that Shani is a planet that gives endless sufferings to humans both during Sade Sati and Saturn Mahadasha and Antardasha.

While it is true that these 7.5 years bring really hard times for most of the natives, but is not uniformly troublesome for all. On the other hand, there are many who register substantial growth in personal, professional and family life.

Shani is the planet of Nyay or justice. During Sade Sati, Saturn acts as the judge of the native for all of his deeds in the past 30 years. And justice is delivered as punishment or rewards.

Thus, it is only those who had taken the wrong path of life encounter massive suffering and are pushed to the wall – be it financial crisis, family troubles, health, court cases or even divorce. The mental disturbance it creates is far more than the trouble itself.

LEARNINGS FROM SADE SATI

NOTWITHSTANDING THE results one gets, this happens to be the true learning of life, and upon completion of these 7.5 years, one emerges stronger with greater wisdom, as facing difficulties is the most valuable realization of life.

This is the period of silently evaluating yourself and your past of what you should have done and what you shouldn’t have done, and the price you paid for the mistakes or the rewards you got for certain decisions.

The most beneficial aspect of Sade Sati is the clarity of thinking it gives to natives to distinguish between mistakes and right decisions, friends and foes, challenges and opportunities. It brings a transformational change in people’s attitude towards life, society and the world, thereby preparing them to begin a new and more eventful journey of the future.

BEGINNING OF A NEW JOURNEY

AN INTERESTING point to note is, after this period of self-evaluation and a broader understanding, one changes track by pursuing newer goals as also to make amends for whatever he might have missed out in the last 3 decades.

Thus, experiencing the inner-awakening, one starts afresh with a new mission and vision!
