IN VEDIC Astrology, predictions are made from lagna and moon sign or rashi. Lagna is the rising sign at the time of birth, and also the first and most important house of a horoscope and all other houses and planet placements are calculated from here in an anti-clockwise direction. This is called lagna chart analyses, where predictions are based on planet placements in natal horoscope and in transit in relation to the first house or lagna.

This is called rashi chart analyses, where predictions are based on planet placements in natal horoscope and in transit in respect to the moon sign.

LAGNA IS your inherent strength, whereas moon gives you the will power to break barriers and achieve something extra-ordinary. Moon activates the mind.

The question that baffles most learners of Vedic astrology is – should horoscope analyses and predictions be lagna centric or moon sign based? And which of the two methods offer a higher accuracy rate?

While lagna represents an individual’s overall success in his life’s journey, moon sign embodies emotional and psychological strength and stability. Therefore, one can arrive at a generalized understanding of a horoscope through calculations from the lagna chat but a similar indication may not be evident from moon sign or chandrama rashi chart.

In our opinion, evaluation should be done on both the parameters and a conclusion is to be arrived at based on the combined indications from lagna and moon sign. A study of the birth chart without referring to both of these will throw partial possible outcomes, and hence, will not be a comprehensive or accurate prediction.

That apart, as the position of planets in the birth chart and in transit are different when a horoscope is analyzed from moon sign or lagna, this makes it necessary to predict all horoscopes from both the lagna chart and moon chart.

SINCE MOON represents the mind, what really matters is the thinking of the individual on which he acts than the mere background and circumstances. For example, human beings are shaped much as the way they think about their future – say one is born in an illiterate family but he has dreams to study engineering or medicine or become a scientist will use his mental strength to overcome his disadvantaged situation.

The purpose of astrological predictions is not for knowing the past but to get an idea of how future would unfold in an individual’s life. Thus, moon sign is given more importance than lagna by many astrologers as one’s possibilities for growth is an element of the future.
