WHY PEOPLE FLOCK TO ASTROLOGERS?

ASTROLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS and the relevance of fortune telling are often questioned by many rationalists and scientific societies!

Notwithstanding the diatribes against this ancient Vedic Science, even in an age of scientific and technological accomplishments, people flock to astrologers in hordes. And they are no common folks – the educated and learned, the well to do and respected, rich to the richest, scientists or social scientists. Powerful politicians, bureaucrats, doctors too join this queue with hope and anxiety. While outwardly, many of them would deny having ever gone to an astrologer, in private they all acknowledge that planetary dashas and transits do affect their lives.

We all go through good and bad phases in our lives. In favourable times, people think they are enjoying the fruits of hard work or intelligent planning – but when one continuously gets battered, even the most ardent critic of sooth saying seeks refuge in analyzing his horoscope.

One simple question can clear much of the doubts on the authenticity of the subject – How can an astrologer who has never seen or known you state many incidents of your past accurately?

WHEN SCIENCE FAILS

ALTHOUGH SCIENCE hinges on the basic premise of cause and effect, results often turn out to be exactly opposite. For example, logically academic toppers are the ones who should shine – but are all AIIMS or IIT or IIM alumni the best performers in their respective fields. They compete with selectively screened brilliant brains in India and undergo the most rigorous courses – yet several fail to reach the top! On the other hand, there are many who hold no coveted academic degrees, nor do they have any significantly good educational background. But surprisingly, they have done extremely well in professional spheres. Can science explain this anomaly? Perhaps not, though Astrology can – some horoscopes support strong academics, but not so powerful professional success and vice-versa, while some may favour both.

That apart, have we wondered why everything goes wrong in bad times – there are problems at workplace, children’s education suffers, spouse gets hospitalized, some one very close passes away, tenant drags you to court, other social liabilities crop up as well – one would notice all sorts of problems encircle you in difficult times. This is because whenever you are in a malefic dasha or planetary transit, no matter how well to do or efficient you are, troubles would engulf you from all corners. After a period of two to five years, with the onset of a new antardasha or changed transit, things gradually normalize. Similarly, during good phases there is a smooth growth on all fronts.

AGAIN, THERE are numerous cases of failed marriages that lead to separation, divorce, early widowhood or couples failing to procreate. Often love marriages turn out to be the most hated divorces. Matching horoscopes before wedlock can save many such miseries of couples. Astrology can compare the mood, mental, physical and intellectual compatibilities to see if those alliances will last or not. Sweet hearts in love, who perhaps can’t marry someone else because of a horoscope mismatch, can at least be forewarned to remain extremely careful in their married life. Such Astro-counselling approaches can work as effective anti-dotes to save marriages.

THERE ARE more surprising effects that astrology can unravel. Why a few incidents in life change a man’s or woman’s future for the bad or good – there have been cases where a perfectly normal and extremely well to do professional suddenly committing a murder and getting convicted for life behind bars. Life becomes miserable for just one unintentional act – who could have guessed their future destiny? Astrology can predict many such upheavals, and forewarn those with such possibilities to be extremely cautious, thus avoiding an unforgettable sad story of life. Similarly, a chance meeting in business or a chance opportunity can open the doors of prosperity to many.

MET OFFICE WARNING

WE ADMIT Astrology can’t change your fortune. For then, there would be no poor man on earth! Yet it can offer some protection from misfortunes. It is like an umbrella – which protects you from drizzle but covers you up to your waist in case of heavy downpour. Or like a Meteorological office warning fishermen not to venture out fishing as heavy thunderstorms are expected in the seas. An advance warning gives one the opportunity to tread cautiously, thereby avoiding possible mishaps or restrict the intensity of the loss. In other words, forewarning one to be forearmed. At the same time, Astrology can guide you to be in the right decision making path to different aspects of life and help maximize gains.

LEGAL SANCTION

IF SO far it was not convincing enough, then there is legal sanction from the Honourable Courts as also an acknowledgement of the Indian State on the authenticity and relevance of Vedic Astrology.

The Bombay High Court verdict in 2011 stated on a PIL filed by an NGO, Janhit Manch that had sought action against ‘fake’ astrologers, tantriks, etc:

“So far as prayer related to astrology is concerned, the Supreme Court has already considered the issue and ruled that astrology is science. The court had in 2004 also directed the universities to consider if astrology science can be added to the syllabus. The decision of the apex court is binding on this court,” observed the judges. The judges also took on record an affidavit submitted by the Union government that astrology is 4000 years old ‘trusted science’.

WHY PREDICTIONS FAIL?

THE OBVIOUS question that readers can ask is – why many of the predictions of well known sooth sayers don’t come true. So is it a short-coming of Astrologers or Astrology?

Ancient Vedic Saints who had discovered the relationship between planets and its effects on our lives 4000 years ago, had tremendous scientific knowledge. There was no telescope or scientific laboratories then. Yet, they had been cent percent precise in calculating the movement of planets, stars and occurrence of different eclipses. Modern day astronomers can in no way contradict that. Ayurveda, too originated from the same roots – the medicinal properties and values of different Indian plants are mentioned in the Vedas. India has won back patents for certain properties of neem and turmeric at international courts from overseas awardees citing that this knowledge is a 4000-year wisdom of Indian saints and is in no way a modern discovery.

Such unimaginable knowledge of the Vedic saints can in no way be matched by present day soothsayers. Today’s astrologers don’t possess even a minute fraction of that learning. Hence, an incomparable disparity is the reason why even the best astrologers of our times can’t give a cent percent perfect prediction. However, most of them can at least give a more accurate broader picture unfolding in a person’s life.

Surely, even a broader picture of Astrological predictions would enable us to lead a more trouble-free and prosperous future. But Ignoring Astrology is like overlooking a pot-hole while walking!
