IN VEDIC astrology, D-4, i.e. Chaturthaṁsa is the specific divisional chart for decoding property, real estate, ancestral assets, vehicles and material comforts of domestic life. While the natal chart - D-1 or Rasi chart gives a broad framework, divisional charts offer precision. D-1 chart indicates the promise of property and stability, but the D-4 refines those possibilities and reveals how and when they will materialize in life.

More specifically, D-4 bridges the possibilities of the natal chart with the reality of life events - showing not just the quantity of assets but also the quality of happiness derived from them. WHAT IS D-4 CHART?

Movable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) - First quarter begins from the same sign.

Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) - First quarter begins from the 9th sign from it.

Dual signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) - First quarter begins from the 5th sign from it.

For example, Moon is at 10° Taurus, a fixed sign falls in the 2nd quarter 7°30′–15°00′. For fixed signs, the first quarter begins from the 9th sign from Taurus = Capricorn. Hence, 1st quarter → Capricorn 2nd quarter → Aquarius. Moon, therefore, goes to Aquarius in D-4. By repeating this for every planet and Ascendant, a complete D-4 chart is prepared.

While ascendant represents the native’s approach to property and domestic life, the strength and placement of the lagna lord indicate the potential for acquiring and maintaining assets.

A strong lagna lord of D-4 in a benefic house - e.g., 1st, 4th, 5th, 9th or 10th suggests stability and success in property matters, but affliction by malefics like Saturn, Mars or Rahu may indicate delays or disputes. While benefic influences of Jupiter, Venus, Mercury bring harmony and material comforts, malefic affliction of Saturn, Mars, Rahu may delay or obstruct property gains.

4th House of D-4 - Next, focus on 4th house and its lord in D-4, as 4th house is the primary indicator of home, property and emotional security. A well-placed 4th lord, supported by benefic planets like Jupiter or Venus, suggests comfort, prosperity and happiness through property ownership. Conversely, malefic influences of Saturn, Mars or Rahu on the 4th house may point to challenges like property disputes or instability in residence.

Another important feature is to assess the 4th lord of the natal chart and its placement in D-4. A strong, well-placed 4th lord in D-4 grants smooth property acquisition, but afflicted or weak 4th lord indicates obstacles, disputes or instability.

An equally crucial factor is to see planets in the 4th house of D-4, the house representing the core of property and domestic happiness. Thus, benefics here, bring prosperity and stable assets, while malefics like Rahu, Ketu, Mars or Saturn may cause losses, disputes or maintenance issues.
